Dylan Lightfoot Wins J-Bay Trials

Firstly, congratulations on winning the trials and booking your ticket into the main event. How does it feel?

Thanks! Ahh it feels incredible! A dream come true. Ever since i was a grommet running up and down the beach chasing the pros for there autograph it has been a dream of mine to make it into the CT in my home town.

Before the trials, you’ve been on fire and have been winning and placing well in all event’s. Has anything changed in your training schedule?

Just putting the hours in the water and having no excuses to not go for a surf. Also not having my mind split between surfing and school this year, i can fully commit to my surfing.

It looks like you’ll be up against Gabriel Madina in Round 1. Excited about surfing against the number 1 surfer in the world right now?

Definitely! Everyone is asking me if im feeling pressured but to me it feels like the pressured part is over (The Supertrial) and i can now enjoy the experience of surfing supers with the worlds best!

What are your plans for the rest of 2014?

Im fully committed to the rest of the Qs leg for 2014 and to reach my goal of top 100 at the cut off and to compete in as many Pro Juniors as possible, i am really looking forward to the Pro Junior at the Us open in Huntington Beach.

How is surfing growing in SA?

Surfing in SA is growing with brands like Billabong and Hurley committing themselves to investing in the Junior Pro ranks with awesome contests all over SA it certainly stimulates interest in surfing. Surfing is a lifestyle and a family orientated sport I think more people are starting to recognise that, I have seen a huge growth in my local Jeffreys Bay community.

What boards have you been riding lately? Dims?

Well my magic stick at the moment is a black angel Emery, Dims are 5,10 x 18 1/2 x 2 1/4
